Description
Governors Island is known as a unique park setting in the context of New York City. Collective Retreats is a quickly expanding business with retreats in numerous US locations, their newest NYC offering provides a unique recreational experience in the heart of urbanity.
Design Features
The six acre site houses luxury tents and accommodations for up to 100 guests. These tents are carefully sited to preserve views of the water and Statue of Liberty while preserving privacy between units. The main lodge features an expansive curving deck that overlooks the great lawn and the Manhattan Skyline.
Sustainable Features
Featured in the design are minimal site disturbance, along with water and energy conservation. The temporary structures leave a light touch on the land. Spring and fall, the retreat will be constructed and deconstructed. Foundation structures are primarily supported by on-grade concrete pads eliminating the need for excavation. Indigenous xeriscape landscaping requires no irrigation once plants are establishing. Site lighting uses photovoltaics and most tents are powered by solar powered battery packs.
